Kirtan at Daya!
Led by Caroline Cunningham & Kevin Tobar
Free, with a suggested donation of $5-10
The night will begin with some gentle yoga movement and flow and then we will chant and sing mantras. Come sing, chant, dance and play!
...and you may be wondering, what exactly is a Kirtan?
Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting with roots going back many centuries in India. It is a primary practice on the path of Bhakti Yoga. The singing is accompanied by musical instruments and rhythmic drumming and the audience is encouraged to participate by chanting, clapping and dancing. In its heartfelt expression kirtan can induce profound states of meditation and bliss.
Feel free to come and go as you please.
See you there,
This month, Kirtan donations will go to the Ali Forney Center.
If you're already a part of Daya, you know we are pretty big on community, supporting and investing in each other's projects and self-actualization. Family and community rejection has very real consequences for LGBTQ youth including higher rates of homelessness and suicide than their heterosexual counterparts.
The Ali Forney Center helps LGBTQ youth navigate the difficult transition to adulthood and self-support. Please show them your support next Friday 5/12!!
