Nurturing Harmony

Training and Retreat

Daya House, San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala
October 28 - November 2
Hosted by Daya Yoga, Liza Leonard, and Shri Alchemy

A training designed to immerse you in tools to balance the forces of yin and yang within yourself. You will also leave with the awareness and modalities to apply these tools to your own classes and experiences you offer to others.

We will focus on the philosophy and practice of yin yoga, and how to nurture the element of water, or yin, while we are surrounded by the glory of Lake Atitlan. We will explore the opposite nature through a daily ashtanga, or yang practice, to heat and strengthen the body.

We will spend our days on the mountain immersed in deep practice, silence, listening, discussion, healing modalities such as cupping, acupressure, and ceremony. Our training and labs will consist of understanding the yin practice and how to build a yin class around the forces of yin and yang. We will go deep in the practice together and learn how to guide ourselves. How to guide others, how to improvise, hold space, adjust, and create balance in an unbalanced world.

Beyond the yoga training, we will also experience grounding experiences with the land and the native Mayan people of Lake Atitilan, learning about their culture, their beliefs, their harvest, and their rhythm of life. We will also spend one day enjoying town life and having fun dancing with other travelers and visitors!

We will all leave with a new understanding of what it means for ourselves to be in harmony internally and with the world around us. This experience is perfect for anyone who wants to be inspired, pushed to new depths in their practice, open to new ideas and ways of creating practices, and refreshed by the healing element of yin.

About your hosts:

Shri/Marely, a dedicated student of yoga and wellness for the last 10 years, offers therapeutic yoga classes, workshops, and retreats.

Her teaching styles include: Yin yoga, Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa, and Meridian yoga. She weaves in eastern philosophy, zen stories, awareness building techniques and elemental wisdom into her teachings, classes, ceremonies and workshops.

Her intention is to guide with the cultivation of balance, self awareness, overall wellness, and rootedness.

Shri currently lives in the Hudson Valley, NY, where she teaches classes regularly, hosts trainings, and retreats. She also loves relaxing by the river, reading, and making delicious food.

Liza Leonard is a yoga and meditation teacher and lifelong student. Her daily sadhana, or practice, is rooted in meditation and ashtanga yoga, which she hopes to steep herself in so she can transmit it to others in the most authentic way possible. She also studies Buddhism, Vedic philosophy, and dharma of any kind.

This will be Liza’s fifth trip to Guatemala, and she can’t wait to share the magic of the lake and the beautiful culture of the Mayan people with you. Her hosting style is warm, caring, and infused with a contagious love of travel and adventure. She loves meeting new people and weaving groups together in a harmonious way.

Liza teaches yoga, leads, retreats, works on an organic farm in the summer, and when she is not doing all that she is traveling the world (recently India and Nepal), to discover the sacred truths of the path of the yogi and how to infuse that into our modern lives. Liza also loves to cook yummy vegetarian food and sing and dance and play whenever possible.
